Melbourne’s most famous transportation hub is certainly overdue for renewal. Former Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu, an Architect, instigated an ideas competition (including business cases) for a revamped train station on the corner of Swanston & Flinders Streets along the Yarra River. The site is extraordinary and this was a chance to make a real difference. After all, a fledgling firm named Lab created Federation Square, so we thought why not. Submitting against some of the biggest architectural firms on the planet, we didn’t win but then again no one did. Subsequent Premier Daniel Andrews dismissed the competition as a “grandiose colouring-in competition”. You can read more about this process in my Journal here & here or do a little Google-ing and you’ll see loads of chatter. A collaboration with Mihaly Slocombe & Foomann.
